North Korean state media reported this Wednesday (22) the inauguration of United States President Donald Trump, without commenting on the presidency. However, he accused the United States of committing atrocities during the Korean War, between 1950 and 1953.
Rodong Sinmun, spokesman for the ruling Workers’ Party, published a brief article saying that Trump was elected the 47th president in a November election and an inauguration ceremony was held in Washington on Monday (20).
The article did not elaborate on or include commentary on Trump or U.S. issues, although the newspaper did publish a photo of young students receiving Korean War education propaganda and “flying in anger over the atrocities committed by the enemy, the U.S.”
Trump held unprecedented summits with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during his first term and praised their personal relationship.
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service told lawmakers last week that Pyongyang’s recent missile tests were intended, in part, to “display its capabilities as a deterrent to the United States and draw Trump’s attention,” after promising to ” harshest anti-U.S. backlash” at a key year-end policy meeting last month.
