Nicole Kidman dined alone after winning Oscar in 2002: “I was suffering”

Nicole Kidman shared that she had dinner alone in her hotel room the night she received an Oscar in 2002. The 56-year-old actress was honored with the statuette for her role in the film 'The Hours', but had just split from Tom Cruise – with whom he shares Isabelle, 30, and Connor, 28.

Despite her professional success, she recalls that she faced “problems” in her personal life, so she chose to return to her hotel after winning the ceremony, instead of going out to celebrate. “I was suffering from problems in my personal life, although my professional life was going very well. That's what happens, isn't it? I'm not a big party girl, so I was going to skip the Vanity Fair party, and everyone was like, 'You have to go. You have to arrive at the party holding your Oscar,'” she said in an excerpt from the book '50 Oscar Nights', by Dave Karger.

“I said, 'That doesn't sound humble.' Like, what do you mean? You can't arrive boasting the prize! This seems really inappropriate. And they said, 'This is what you do,'” she said. “I came home, ended up ordering food and eating it on the floor of the Beverly Hills Hotel,” she admitted.

The star, who is now married to country singer Keith Urban with whom she had Sunday, 14, and Faith, 12. She recalled the moment she went to bed alone, to sleep before midnight, but joked that, if he won such a prestigious award again, he would celebrate differently. “I went to bed alone; I was in bed before midnight. If I won again, I promise, I would party for 24 hours!” she said.
