The US citizen pleaded guilty in two cases of filing false tax information that entailed a concealment of about $ 13 million profits from NFT transactions from the Cryptopunks collection. This was reported in a press release from the prosecutor’s office of the Central District of Pennsylvania.
According to the authorities, Wailloon Wilcox submitted incorrect data in tax returns for 2021 and 2022. During this period, he made a profit from the sale of 97 tokens, however, he answered “no” to the question about operations with digital currencies and did not indicate the earnings in the documents.
As a result of the filing of false information, Wilkox did not pay about $ 3.2 million of the prescribed tax.
According to federal laws, the maximum punishment involves up to six years of imprisonment, a conditional term and a fine.
On April 10, the collector sold a rare Cryptopunks token with a loss of $ 10 million.
