The number of homeless at New Yorkthe most numerous American metropolis, increased in recent years to 80,000, according to the NGO “The Bowery Mission” which provides support services to the needy and homeless.
“Homelessness in New York City is at its highest level since the Great Depression of the 1930s”highlights the television network Fox News.
According to the official data of the municipal authority, on September 11, 55,338 people, including more than 18,000 children, spent the night in homeless structures.
The Democratic senator Brad Hoilman used the same comparison (to the Great Depression) in an interview with Fox News. At the same time, he complained that “there are many who are profiting from this tragic situation, without providing the services that the city needs”.
“They emptied the jails, shut down Broadway and businesses for two years, destroyed education for kids. Because of them, many lost their jobs. They flooded the city with illegal immigrants,” said Jackie Toboroff, a former candidate for city council in New York, angrily on Fox News.
