New Year's Eve 2023: who celebrates it first in the world?

Very soon, at 11 am Italian time, the inhabitants ofChristmas Island, better known as Kiribati, they will celebrate New Year 2023. They will be the first to welcome 2024 and thus say goodbye to what is about to end. While in a large part of the world there are still those who rush to buy the last things for the end-of-year dinner and run last-minute errands, on Christmas Island, which is located in the Indian Ocean south of Indonesia, they are preparing to blow the trumpets and watch the fireworks.

Shortly afterwards, when it is midday in Italy, ad Auckland, capital of New Zealand, the celebrations for 2024 will begin. It is the first capital to welcome 2024. Followed by the Tonga islands, when it is 1pm in Italy, and Samoa. There are 24 hours available to celebrate New Year's Eve 2023, which is why there are world tours by plane to celebrate the new year on both sides of the oceans. At 3pm Italian time it's Australia's turn, then Tokyo to finish at 6pm ready for a toast under the Singapore sky. An hour before us, at 11pm, it's Moscow's turn.

From Moscow onwards the celebrations following midnight in Italy begin. An hour after us we toast in London, three hours later in Rio de Janeiro. They have to spend four hours after our midnight for the midnight toast in Buenos Aires, while Chile, central Brazil, Paraguay celebrate five hours after Italy. And when the first light of dawn breaks in Italy, it's New York's New Year's Eve, seven hours after us. While at 10 in the Italian morning, it's Los Angeles' turn.

The last? I'm at Hawaiian Islands: when the new year is celebrated on the island, in Italy it is midday and there are those who are preparing for the first lunch of 2024.
