A new gas leak was recorded this Friday afternoon (5), in the Alto São Francisco condominium, one day after an explosion that left eight people injured, in Porto Alegre. Firefighters, Civil Defense and Consigaz technicians are on site.
According to the condominium administration, there was a leak in a Consigaz cylinder next to tower 14. In principle, the leak has already been remedied and the condominium has been evacuated.
Civil Defense states that the evacuation was general and firefighters are investigating to allow residents to return safely.
Approximately 60 people are homeless after the gas leak explosion that occurred in a condominium, last Thursday (4) in the Rubem Berta neighborhood, in Porto Alegre. Around 18 to 20 families are living in the party room of the affected condominium.
In addition to the families who are in the condominium's party room, another part of the residents are at the homes of family, friends, and others are receiving accommodation from the project's own neighbors who have already returned to their apartments, said Marcelo Feijó, one of the Condominium's administrators. Alto São Francisco.
The company Master Condominial, which manages the affected towers, contacted the Social Assistance of the State of Rio Grande do Sul and the City of Porto Alegre to help residents, through 'social rent'. However, according to the agencies, the homeless do not qualify for the social assistance program.
Hostels were offered to these families by Porto Alegre City Hall, as well as guesthouses with small rooms, a shared kitchen and bathroom, but the residents did not opt for municipal accommodation, the Social Assistance and Citizenship Foundation (Fasc) informed the CNN .
According to the administrator, Marcelo Feijó, the expert report carried out by Civil Defense has already been completed, but the condominium has not yet been granted access. The report carried out by the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) is not yet ready.
During the afternoon of this Thursday, 5th, Porto Alegre Civil Defense teams began inspections of the housing units and towers 10 and 9 are completely closed. The towers close to the epicenter of the explosion (7, 8, 11 and 12) are blocked for permanent use, but residents are authorized to enter, under the guidance of the Civil Defense or Fire Department, to remove their belongings.
According to Civil Defense, this is a preventive measure while forensic teams continue their work on site. In a statement, the authority reported that the objective is to carry out planned analyzes to identify possible risks of collapse and ensure the safety of residents.
The remaining 16 towers (1 to 6 and 13 to 22) were released so that residents could return to their homes. The decision was made after a preliminary analysis indicated that these structures do not present imminent safety risks.
Civil Defense also stated that the competent authorities will remain on site, coordinating efforts to ensure supervision of residents and carry out actions in response to the incident.
