Motor Oil supports new forest restoration technologies, for an efficient and sustainable management of our forest environment.
In the context of reforestation projects, Motor Oil highlights the good international practices and in collaboration with the Agricultural University of Athens launches an innovative program for the execution of forestry projects applying innovative technologies.
For the first time in our country, there will be a pilot reforestation using a drone. This method is more targeted and efficient as it simplifies the work process and eliminates errors during the preparation of tree planting projects.
Christos Karavitis, Dean of Environment and Agricultural Engineering at GPA said about the initiative: “It is one of the first efforts we make in Greece, in Europe and one of the first in the world, the previous one was made in Australia. We try to help natural regeneration of a forest using the most modern technology “.
The successful outcome of this unique and innovative venture will be the future for reforestation, especially in inaccessible areas.
Giannis Papanikolaou, Associate Professor of Tectonic Geology / Environment and Natural Disasters of the GPA at the beginning of the first sowing using drone said: “We are in Alepochori. Here the slopes exceed 100%, reach up to 200%. In these slopes are “It’s impossible to plant otherwise. Only drone seeding can help.”
Manolis Psomiadis, Assistant Professor of GPA, said about the innovative application: “We have made a special construction, in which the seed enters and rotates with speed and at the same time with the speed of movement we throw a specific seed per square meter”.
The result of these actions is the faster regeneration of the area, enriching the zone located above the settlements, with species of trees that thrive in this area but also giving greater and faster flood protection.
Starting from the reforestation in Panorama 3 of Kineta of the Municipality of Megara and proceeding to Venistres of the settlement Galini in the Municipal District of Kineta, the total area that will be reforested with the contribution of the Group reaches 500 acres.
Michalis Liaros, Project & Group Synergies Manager of Motor Oil, stated at the beginning of the pilot reforestation using drones: “With the initiative of the Group, a new path is opened to the possibilities of regeneration of our forest wealth. and sensitivity of the Group for the multifunctional role of forest ecosystems “.
It is worth noting that with this project MOH is one of the first companies to proceed with high value forestry projects based on approved studies.
To the integrated strategy of the Group for the protection of biodiversity, belongs the initiative of adoption of the forest gin of Amygdaleza.
The amygdala forest ginnery is the only supplier of certified seeds for public and private nurseries. The goal is for the Central Forest Seed Warehouse to be developed and modernized, with modern technology machines, so that it can soon be transformed into a Forest Genetic Material Conservation Bank.
George Karetsos, Forester, Director of the Institute of Mediterranean Forest Ecosystems ELGO -DIMITRA noted: “The most important contribution of Motor Oil is its help in the reconstruction – reconstruction of the largest nursery in Greece, the forest nursery in Amigo and will help in the reheating of all the nurseries infrastructure that our country had “.
