Several people were killed when a truck ran over people attending an outdoor barbecue in the southern Dutch city of Noye Beijerland, local police said.
Police authorities did not give further details on the number of victims, adding that they were investigating the accident, which occurred around 19:00 local time (20:00 Greek time) 30 kilometers south of Rotterdam.
“At some point a truck veered off the road and crashed into people who were partying,” police spokeswoman Elian Mastwijk told local TV channel Rijnmond. It is unclear what caused the crash, he added. The exact number of dead and injured also remains unclear because the truck has not yet been removed from the scene.
Footage broadcast by Rijnmond and other news sites shows a van from a Spanish transport company amid broken picnic tables.
