Netanyahu thanks Trump and Biden for “moving forward” on hostage deal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to US President-elect Donald Trump and US President Joe Biden to thank them for their help in “moving forward” the Gaza ceasefire agreement and release of hostages.

A statement from Netanyahu’s office on Wednesday (15) said he thanked Trump for “advancing the release of the hostages and for helping Israel end the suffering of dozens of hostages and their families.”

Netanyahu “emphasized his commitment to bringing back all hostages by any means necessary” during the call with Trump, the statement said.

“He also welcomed the president-elect’s remarks that the United States will work with Israel to ensure that Gaza never again becomes a haven for terror,” the document added.

The statement said Netanyahu and Trump discussed plans to meet in Washington, DC.

It also noted that Netanyahu had spoken to Biden, thanking him “for his assistance in advancing the hostage deal,” but did not disclose further details of the conversation.

A senior Biden administration official told reporters on Wednesday that the two leaders spent the call “marking this moment, but also reflecting on the horror that Israel has seen since October 7th, and also the horror that the hostages have faced,” while were in Hamas captivity in Gaza.

The Israeli prime minister will make an official announcement on the hostage ceasefire agreement only after the final details of the deal are finalized, his office said.

The statement said final details were “currently being worked on.”
