Israel is on high alert, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday, amid growing expectations that Iran or its allies will retaliate over the killing of Hezbollah and Hamas leaders this week.
“Israel is very prepared for any scenario – both defensively and offensively,” he said, according to statements released by his office after a visit to the Home Front Command. “We will exact a very heavy price for any act of aggression against us in any arena.”
Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah vowed Thursday to respond to the killing of the group’s top military commander in an attack on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement that Israel would face a “harsh” and “painful response” over the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh. Israel did not claim responsibility for the attack.
