Netanyahu says he will not resign amid war between Israel and Hamas

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahutold reporters on Saturday (30) that he will not resign from his position after facing criticism for failing to anticipate the October 7 attacks.

Netanyahu was pressured to take responsibility during a press conference.

“Your question about willingness to resign – that comes back again and again. The only thing I intend to renounce is Hamas. That's what I'm giving up. This is what I am dealing with and nothing more,” Netanyahu said.

The winds have been shifting against the prime minister as Israel's war in Gaza drags on and Hamas continues to hold hostages.

Several opinion polls suggest that national favorability for Netanyahu and his governing coalition is collapsing, despite Israel's continued overwhelming support for the war against Hamas.

A long war lies ahead: Netanyahu also said during Saturday's press conference that Israel's war against Hamas “will continue for many more months.”

“My policy is clear: we will continue to fight until the objectives of the war are achieved, especially the elimination of Hamas and the release of all our hostages,” the prime minister said, according to a translated transcript of his comments released through your office.

Netanyahu also said the Israeli military is “fighting with strength and new systems above and below ground,” according to Israel Army Radio. “We have the advantage, we have killed more than 8,000 terrorists,” he said.

A CNN cannot independently confirm casualty figures provided by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) or Hamas, due to restricted access to the region and the difficulty in verifying accurate numbers in the midst of an ongoing conflict.
