Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said again this Thursday (9) that “there would be no ceasefire” without the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“The fighting continues and there will be no ceasefire without the release of our hostages,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “Israel is allowing safe passage corridors from the north to the south of the Strip, as 50,000 Gazans did yesterday.”
“We again call on the civilian population of Gaza to move south,” he said.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog said on Thursday that Hamas had not presented viable proposals for the release of hostages.
“While there are many, many people who are third parties or who send optimistic messages to the news, I am saying openly, to the best of my knowledge, as of now, there is no real, substantial information that shows any real offer,” Herzog told NBC News in an interview.
“And that is regrettable. Of course we are working – both on the military front and on all other fronts – to bring them home,” he added.
The statements coincided with US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby saying that Israel will begin implementing four-hour daily pauses in military operations in areas of northern Gaza.
Israel has already opened passageways for a few hours since Saturday. This Thursday, Israel opened a corridor for six hours, allowing civilians to flee northern Gaza.
