Neighborhood of city in RS is swept away by flood and disappears from the map; see before and after

The city of Cruzeiro do Sul, in Vale do Taquari, in Rio Grande do Sul, is among the many affected by the floods that have hit the state since the beginning of May. Images captured by drone show the destruction in what, until then, was the neighborhood Star Step located close to the bed of the Taquari River. The place was swallowed by the force of the water and disappeared .

The images, recorded this Tuesday (14), show the neighborhood completely destroyed. Amid mud and puddles of water, there are only a few remnants of what, until then, was a neighborhood inhabited by hundreds of families. The video below, from Grupo A Hora, shows what's left of the neighborhood .

New rain in RS

A new cold front approaches Rio Grande do Sul, bringing rain forecast for next Thursday (16). According to meteorologists, the precipitation should be less voluminous than the storms that hit the state in recent days, but there is still a risk of a new extratropical cyclone forming on Friday (17).

Temperatures remain low in the state, reaching 0°C in some places.

Although less intense, the rain projected for the period could accumulate between 60 and 90 millimeters in several cities in Rio Grande do Sul until Sunday (19). In Santa Catarina and Paraná, volumes can exceed 100 millimeters.

A survey by Climatempo revealed that, in the first 15 days of this month, Fontoura Xavier, in the northwest of Rio Grande do Sul, recorded precipitation of almost 1,000 millimeters – a volume equivalent to six months of rain in the region.
