Negotiators in the US Congress move closer to a $ 900 billion Covid-19 aid bill

A source familiar with the status of negotiations in the United States Congress regarding additional help for Covid-19 has suggested that the Democrats and Republicans are “closing in” on a $ 900 billion bill which would include a new round of stimulus controls, Reuters reports. In addition, the bill will include the extension of unemployment benefits, as well as “other avenues” of assistance to state and local governments (which has been a key demand from the Democrats). Sources say the bill is unlikely to include provisions on corporate responsibility (a key Republican demand).

The news comes after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell recently said that congressional leaders have made important progress at work towards an aid agreement for Covid-19.
