Navy military personnel go to trial for the death of a civil police officer in Rio

The Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice (TJRJ) begins this Wednesday (9), at 13h, the trial of Three Navy military accused of involvement in the death of the Civil Police expert Renato Couto de Mendonça .

The popular jury will be held at the 3rd Criminal Court of the state capital.

Bruno Santos de Lima, Daris Fidélis Motta and Manoel Vítor da Silva Soares respond for qualified homicide, procedural fraud and people contest. According to the prosecution, the three would be involved in the execution of the police, whose body was transported in a navy van to the Guandu River after being shot.

The crime occurred in May 2022, when Renato was investigating theft of materials of a work of his property. During this investigation, he located part of the items in a junkyard, where a disagreement began with the accused. The discussion evolved into a confrontation that ended with the expert’s murder.

On Monday (7), the judge responsible for the case, Tula Correa de Mello, rejected a request from the defense to postpone the trial, even after the justification that one of the lawyers was removed by medical license. The magistrate considered that the bank has other qualified professionals, which ensures the continuity of the session.
