The National Force will be sent to Mato Grosso do Sul, this weekend, to assist the Federal Police (PF) in combating drug and weapons trafficking in the state, mainly on the border with Paraguay.
The security agents will remain, initially, until May 3rd, and, according to a decree from the Ministry of Justice, they will provide support “in activities and services essential to the preservation of public order and the safety of people and property, on an episodic basis and planned.”
The operation will have logistical support from the Federal Police in the state, which will be responsible for the infrastructure necessary for the National Force. The number of police officers sent is kept confidential due to security in risky actions.
A CNN found that the National Force will act in support of the PF not only in the capital, Campo Grande, but also in more remote locations and on the border with Paraguay, where authorities observe a higher incidence of marijuana trafficking, and also on the border with Bolivia , where there are more cases of cocaine trafficking.
Arms trafficking is also a priority. In December, the PF carried out a mega-operation with Interpol against a group suspected of trafficking 43,000 weapons to the heads of the country's largest criminal factions in three years.
The items left Europe, passed through Paraguay and then entered Brazil via Mato Grosso do Sul. 25 arrest warrants were issued.
