Nassos Iliopoulos: Schools are not parking for children – They must open safely

The representative of SYRIZA-PS, Nassos Iliopoulos, harshly criticized the government for the way it opens schools on Monday in their statements to Mega and Atlas TV, while he pointed out that “as experts have pointed out – such as Mr. Kapravelos- “Dispersal in schools is directly related to the deterioration of the health situation in the country.”

“Schools are not parking for children, schools must be opened safely”, said Mr. Iliopoulos and added: “The protocol of 50% + 1 was a government decision, it was not a suggestion of the scientists, as members of it have stated “It’s a protocol that does not exist anywhere in Europe, a protocol that gives a lot of cases to the community and the government continues to implement it at a time when the pressure on the health system is increasing.”

Referring to the SYRIZA proposal, he stressed that “classes should be closed in the first case and free tests should be given to students to reopen, this is the European rule”, while he accused the government that “it does not allow special purpose permits to be granted to working parents so that they can take care of their sick children “. He noted that “in order to prepare for the safe opening of schools, SYRIZA has proposed the extension of school holidays for a week as well as that there should also be a general prescription of tests.” He also stressed that “in these circumstances, it is not possible for the Pentelis Children’s Hospital to suspend its operation as a hospital -by a decision of the government- and to turn it exclusively into a vaccination center”.

Referring to the new measures of the government for accuracy, Nassos Iliopoulos claimed that “the subsidy for household tariffs is 15% lower than in December”. He criticized ND for “unreliability and inadequacy” and explained: “We have a government that just 20 days ago voted on a budget. And when you can not – within 20 days – predict that an additional 400 million euros will be needed, definitely something “You have made a mistake. This money is too little for what we have in front of us.”

Finally, regarding the Tsakloglou circular on pensions, he noted that “on December 30, the government came as a thief – with a circular of Mr. Tsakloglou and Mr. Hatzidakis – to cut up to 268 euros from widowhood and invalidity pensions” and added : “ND, in these three years, has already cut about 2.5 billion euros in total, mainly from low-income retirees, because it abolished the permanent expenditure that SYRIZA had instituted in 2019 for the restoration of part of the 13th pension – something that then in fact, ND had voted… This money now goes to a bottomless barrel, to the privatization of auxiliary insurance “.
