NASA compares photos taken by the Webb and Hubble telescopes; check it out

THE NASA published, this Tuesday (29), two photos of the same set of stars, comparing what can be seen in each of them. The first photo was taken from the Webb Space Telescope while the second was captured by Hubble Space Telescope.

“The whole scenario [visto nas fotos] is the star cluster NGC 602, and this new view [da primeira na galeria acima] was taken by the Webb Space Telescope in various infrared colors. In comparison, an image shows the same star cluster in visible light, previously taken by the Hubble Space Telescope”, explains the American agency.

NASA also explains that it is possible to identify a wide variety of galaxies in the first image, in the background and especially at the edges of the photo, and that they would be “at least hundreds of millions of light years away”.

NGC 602 is located near the perimeter of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC), a small satellite galaxy of our Milky Way galaxy. The featured image spans about 200 light years.

The James Webb Space Telescope (also known as JWST or Webb) is the most up-to-date tool for space observation that exists. Using infrared technology, the instrument orbiting the Sun can obtain images of the infancy of the cosmos.

Successor to the Hubble Telescope, the JWST aims to study all phases of the formation of the Universe.

The investigation begins with the first lights after the Big Bang and goes until the emergence of solar systems capable of supporting life on planets, like Earth.
