Nando Reis celebrates 60 years: discover hits by Skank, Cássia Eller and others written by the singer

The singer Nando Reis celebrates, this Thursday (12), his 60th birthday.

Celebrated for his career in Brazilian music, whether in his solo career or as one of the Titãs, the red-haired man from São Paulo with round glasses has more than 270 original songs registered in the database of the Central Office of Collection and Distribution (Ecad) – in addition to almost 1,175 recordings.

From this list, many compositions by Nando Reis became hits in the voice of other interpreters. Remember below some of their famous musical partnerships.

Jota Quest

According to Ecad, the song by Nando Reis most listened to and most covered over the last 10 years is precisely one that was popularized in the voice of another artist.

It is the interpretation of “Do Seu Lado” made by the Minas Gerais band Jota Quest. The song accompanies the shows of Rogério Flausino’s band since the recording on the album “MTV ao Vivo: Jota Quest”, in 2003.

One partnership that proved to be highly productive and popular was with Skank vocalist Samuel Rosa.

For example, according to Ecad, of the 20 most played songs by Nando Reis in the last 10 years, seven were with his colleague from Minas Gerais.

Among the most famous are, for example, “Sutilmente”, released by Skank on the album “Estandarte” (2008), or “Esquecimento” and “Ela Me Deixou”, from the album “Velocia” (2014), or even the hit from 1998, “Resposta” – whose verses arose from Nando’s breakup with his then-girlfriend Marisa Monte.

They also wrote many songs that became big hits when appearing on the soundtrack of national soap operas.

These are the cases of “I still like her”, “Dois Rios” or “It’s a football match”.

Cassia Eller

One of the great partnerships and loves of Nando Reis’ life was his friend Cássia Eller.

The two met in the 1990s, in Rio de Janeiro, in Urca, at Marisa Monte’s house.

In 1999, Nando produced Cássia’s album “Com Você… Meu Mundo Ficaria Completo”. On this album, Cássia performed several of the singer’s compositions, such as “AsCoasturasTa Mais Lindas”, “Infernal” and “Meu Mundo Ficaria Completo (Com Você).

Another song featured on this album is one of Nando’s greatest hits, the interpretation of “O Segundo Sol”.

Nando also co-produced one of the most famous albums of Cássia’s career, “Acústico MTV”, in 2001. In it, the singer performed songs signed by her friend such as “ECT”, “Luz dos Olhos” and another hit, “Relicário”.

The agreement between them was that Nando would produce three albums by Cássia Eller, but the plans were impacted by the early death of the singer, victim of a heart attack on December 29, 2001.

In homage and with the authorization of the family, Nando produced a posthumous album in 2002, “Dez de Novembro”, on Cássia’s birthday.

The release brought a track with Cássia performing another hit by Nando, “All Star”, composed precisely about their relationship.

Other partnerships

The courtship of a few years lived between Nando Reis and Marisa Monte in the 1990s generated well-known fruits of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB.

For example, the duo wrote the song “Onde Você Mora”, which became famous in the voice of Toni Garrido with the band Cidade Negra.

Nando also signs the song “Ainda Remember”, released by Marisa in partnership with singer Ed Motta on the album “Mais”, in 1991.

In 2023, Nando Reis will once again take the stage with Titãs for the band’s 40th anniversary celebration tour.

Arnaldo Antunes, Nando Reis, Paulo Miklos and Charles Gavin will join Branco Mello, Tony Bellotto and Sérgio Britto for ten shows between April and June 2023. Liminha will replace guitarist Marcelo Fromer, who died in an accident in 2001.

On April 28th, they open the tour at Jeneusse Arena in Rio de Janeiro and on the 29th at Expo Minas in Belo Horizonte. On May 5th they play at Hard Rock Live in Florianópolis, on the 6th at the Beira-Rio amphitheater in Porto Alegre.

At the end of the month they play at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador (27) and in June they play at Classic Hall, in Recife (2) at Marina Park in Fortaleza (3), at Arena BRB do Mané Garrincha in Brasília (7), at Pedreira Paulo Leminski in Curitiba (10) and at Allianz Parque in São Paulo (17).
