Murderer took cash from American's house, say Rio police

Investigations by the Rio Civil Police indicate that dollars were taken from the home of American Brent Sikkema, 75 years old, in the early hours of last Sunday (14), when the man was killed in the house he owns in Jardim Botânico, in the South Zone of Rio. The amount was not disclosed. The information corroborates the specialist's main line of investigation, which believes that the crime was a robbery, robbery followed by death.

Hotline Denúncia published, this Wednesday (17), a poster with the title — Quem Matou? — to obtain information that could lead to the identification and arrest of those involved in the gallery owner’s death. The body was found on Monday night (15) by his lawyer and friend, Simone Nunes.

The victim had stab wounds – such as knives, scissors, box cutters and screwdrivers – on his body. According to police, the gun was not in Sikkema's home. Agents are awaiting the cadaveric report to find out what type of instrument was used in the crime.

The Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) analyzes images that show a man leaving the house on the day of the murder. The property is a townhouse located on Rua Abreu Fialho. The house dates back to the 1920s and was renovated by the American, who decided to maintain the original features.

The recording of the movement on the day of the crime was provided by the security company Gabriel. In the images, the suspect appears entering Sikkema's home at around 3:43 am. He leaves the property around 14 minutes later, removing gloves from his hands. He puts the accessories in his pocket, gets in the car and drives away.

The American was a partner at the contemporary art gallery Sikkema Jenkins & Co., in New York, United States. He leaves behind his husband and a son.

Through social media, Brent demonstrated his passion for Brazil and Cuba. In some publications, he praised Rio de Janeiro, a city he called his second home. He also cited Clarice Lispector as one of his favorite writers. In another post, he shared a photo with former first lady Michelle Obama.
