The suspect of murdering a man in 1999 was arrested this Wednesday (25) in Boa Vista, capital of Roraima. The arrest was carried out by Gislayne de Deus, the victim’s eldest daughter, who is now a Civil Police clerk.
According to the State Secretariat for Public Security, Raimundo Alves Gomes is accused of killing Givaldo José Vicente de Deus on February 16, 1999, with a gunshot in a bar in the Asa Branca neighborhood, in Boa Vista.
Raimundo was located during an operation carried out in a region of farms, where he was hiding to escape justice.
The ministry states that the murder was motivated by a debt of R$150 and that, after the crime, the suspect fled and remained at large for 25 years. At the time of the case, Givaldo left behind five young daughters.
According to the Roraima Civil Police, Gislayne’s father’s case went to trial in 2016. Givaldo’s family found a witness who had not yet participated in the judicial process, which resulted in the defendant being sentenced to 12 years in prison. . However, he remained at large.
In 2019, the suspect’s arrest warrant was issued and, in 2022, Gislayne’s uncle came to see the defendant in the region, but, at the time, she was not yet part of the Civil Police team, which hampered the attempts to locate it.
THE CNN Gislayne stated that since the crime, she has always tried, in some way, to honor her father’s memory. In July of this year, Givaldo’s eldest daughter passed the Roraima Civil Police exam and, upon joining the corporation, requested to be part of the General Homicide Police Station so that she could investigate the case and locate the perpetrator of the crime.
“It’s a sector that I see makes a difference in people’s lives. It is a feeling of justice, that it is completely done. Today we have peace in our conscience that [a morte do pai] did not go unpunished”, highlighted Gislayne, CNN .
