Munich airport closed due to a grenade in a passenger’s hand luggage

Gun bomb found in the hand luggage of a man traveling from Munich to Turkey, resulting in a large-scale police operation and blockade for hours airport of Munich.

According to the APE, which quotes Muenchner Merkur, a 28-year-old man from Bavaria, who was traveling on holiday to Turkey, was found carrying the grenade to hand luggage causing great mobilization of the airport authorities.

The man claimed to have found the grenade two weeks ago, in one tour in the countryside in Switzerland, but was unable to answer why he carried it in his luggage, while, according to the Police, he did not seem to be aware of how dangerous was the object.

The grenade launcher deactivated by pyrotechnicians

The grenade was transported to a safe place and deactivated by pyrotechnicians, while the airport area was closed for three hours, according to the same sources.

The young man will now have to face not only the accusations concerning her attempt to transport explosives and threat to flight safety, but also the cost of the police operation.

It is not clear at this time whether the airport or airlines will claim compensation for the delay caused.
