MPF asks for suspension of note and Health ordinance that contested vaccines

The Federal Public Ministry (MPF) asked, this Thursday (3), for the suspension of a technical note and an ordinance from the Secretariat of Science, Technology, Innovation and Strategic Inputs of the Ministry of Health – the folder responsible for the documents that suggested the effectiveness of chloroquine and ineffectiveness of vaccines.

According to the MPF, “the regulations contradict themes already pacified by the scientific community regarding the treatment and fight against the coronavirus”. The agency also asked for the publication, in place of the note, of the Brazilian Guidelines for Outpatient Drug Treatment of the Patient with Covid-19.

THE CNN contacted the Ministry of Health, which, in a note, informed that “it will manifest itself within the established deadline”.

The position that denied the scientific evidence of vaccines and placed hydroxychloroquine as safe against Covid-19 was in the technical note and in the ordinance used to bar recommendations from the National Commission for the Incorporation of Technologies to the Unified Health System (Conitec), which contraindicated the use of the so-called “Covid kit”.

In them, the ministry body said that hydroxychloroquine is effective in controlled and randomized studies, and that there would be a demonstration of safety in experimental and observational studies. Also in the table, there was the information that the vaccines do not meet these requirements.

After the repercussion, the technical note was republished only without one of the tables that indicated the supposed “efficiency” of hydroxychloroquine, already scientifically discarded in the treatment of Covid-19. However, the removal would not have been enough to repair the situation, argues the MPF.

“The document states that, despite the removal of the table that indicated effectiveness for hydroxychloroquine – but not for vaccines in the fight against covid-19 -, Technical Note 3/2022 continued to reject the Brazilian Guidelines for Drug Treatment of the disease”, says a note. of the MPF.

The document generated an immediate reaction from medical entities, which rejected the content of the text of the folder commanded by Hélio Angotti Neto. The secretary must explain himself to the Federal Supreme Court by providing information about the published note, as informed by the Ministry of Health to the court.

For the MPF, the document “causes a false sense of security to the population, which relaxes measures of social distance and the use of masks, trusting that the early use of the ‘covid kit’ will protect them from serious manifestations of the disease”.

“The MPF points out that several health entities in Brazil issued notes of repudiation against the notes published by the SCTIE, highlighting that the secretary cannot ignore technical alerts, and may commit ethical failure or even administrative improbity”, highlights the position of the body.
