The White House took Patty Morin, mother of Maryland’s murdered young woman, Rachel Morin, as a “special guest” for Wednesday’s press conference with reporters.
The Trump administration sought to draw attention to Morin’s murder this week as the controversy was growing around the case of Maryland man, Kilmar Armando Embego Garcia, who was deported by mistake.
A fugitive from El Salvador, Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, was convicted on Monday (14) for Morin’s murder in 2023.
She was killed along a walking trail in Bel Air in August 2023, according to authorities.
In an interview with Fox News last night, Patty Morin said he believed “justice was done” after the conviction of Martinez-Hernndez.
Morin, along with his son Michael and his granddaughter Clementine, visited the White House in January for the signature of Laken Riley Act, where Trump personally thanked her for attending the ceremony.
Accusation of gang involvement
The White House criticized hard on Wednesday (16), the trip of Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen to El Salvador, made in support of Kilmar Abargo Garcia, the saved of Maryland who was deported by mistake and is detained in the mega prison known with Cecot.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said Kilmar Embego Garcia “is not a family of Maryland,” accusing him of being a member of the MS-13 gang. She added that if he returns to the United States, he will be deported again.
Earlier, Senator Van Hollen stated that the Salvadoran authorities denied access to Kilmar Embego Garcia.
According to lawyers, Abrego Garcia, 29, left El Salvador at 16 to escape gang -related violence.
In 2019, he received a protection order to stay in the United States. He was never accused or convicted of any crime, according to his lawyers, who deny the court’s accusation that he belongs to the MS-13 criminal gang.
In addition to Vugo Garcia, the Trump government deported hundreds of people – most of Venezuelans – to El Salvador under the law of foreign enemies of 1798, alleging gang bonds, without evidence and without judgment.
