Considered the main suspect of having killed her two 6-year-old twin daughters within an interval of eight days, Gisele Beatriz Dias, 42, made a false accusation of rape against the girls’ father. The man is not being investigated for the murders and the sexual crimes charge against him has been dropped.
The information was released by delegate Ivanir Caliari, who is responsible for investigating the case, which occurred in the city of Igrejinha (RS), around 90 kilometers from Porto Alegre.
“We found that last year an incident of rape was recorded, made by the mother, accusing the father [das crianças] of having committed sexual abuse against the girls”, stated the delegate.
According to him, this complaint was made at a time when the couple was separated and the father had custody of the twins.
“During the course of the investigation, it was possible to verify, through the expertise of the IGP [Instituto-Geral de Perícias]that the girls were induced to claim such rape was committed by their father”, added Caliari.
At the end of the investigations, said the police chief, Gisele admitted that she made the false report with the intention of taking custody of her daughters.
“Vicious conduct”
The police chief also highlighted that, according to witnesses, the girls’ mother displayed “perverse behavior”. Another daughter of the couple gave a statement and, according to Caliari, “said that she had no doubt that she [a mãe] did any harm to his sisters, in view of his conduct throughout his life with her.”
“She witnessed different events that lead her to not doubt that she did any harm to her sisters,” he added.
“We verified through the daughter’s testimony that the mother’s conduct was to put medicine in the father’s food, mix medicine, so that he would sleep whenever she had any displeasure towards him”, added the delegate.
Poisoned cats
Three months before the girls’ deaths, three of their family’s cats were killed without an apparent cause. The police are investigating whether there is a relationship between the cases.
“The cats mysteriously appeared dead inside the house for no justified reason, as the cats were domestic and did not go out into the street,” said the police chief. “This issue of the poisoning of cats raises a question mark as to whether this fact did not occur with the intention of planning for a subsequent poisoning of the girls”, said Ivanir Caliari.
How were the deaths
On October 7th, Manoela Pereira fell ill while sleeping. The girl was taken to a hospital, but she did not survive and died. Last Tuesday (15), Antônia died in the same way, in the hospital, after suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest while sleeping.
What caught the police’s attention was the fact that the two deaths occurred in a similar way. Furthermore, the girls had no relevant health problems.
On the 16th, Gisele was arrested. The police suspect that she poisoned her daughters. The cause of the deaths, however, will only be clarified when the report is ready.
According to preliminary investigations, there were no apparent signs of violence on the sisters’ bodies. The doctor who treated the girls on both occasions was also interviewed by the police.
