The Rio de Janeiro subway rate will be readjusted from R $ 7.50 to R $ 7.90 from next Saturday (12). The increase is 5.33%.
The readjustment was authorized by the Public Services Regulatory Agency granted from watercraft, railroad, subway and highways of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Agetransp RJ).
According to the agency, the annual readjustment of the tariff is provided for in the service concession agreement. The Metrôrio, the concessionaire responsible for the operation of the subway system, said he presented the calculation of the tariff adjustment in early February. The calculation was based on the accumulated variation of the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) in the last 12 months.
Social tariff
Governor Claudio Castro (PL) announced the renewal of the subway social tariff, allowing passengers to continue paying $ 5, even with the readjustment of the fare.
The fare is intended for users between 5 and 64 years old with income of up to R $ 3,205.20, which have a CPF -linked Riocard card.
The measure aims to relieve the impacts of inflation and preserve jobs, according to the Rio de Janeiro State Government, which claims that the measure currently benefits about 1.4 million people. Registered users will have a savings of about R $ 127 per month.
“The social tariff is an important instrument of social protection for the citizen. We know how much inflation has corroded the worker’s salary in recent years. The $ 5 fare in integration is a great relief in the pocket. With the maintenance of the benefit we are doing justice and helping to preserve jobs,” says Castro.
