From centimeter to centimeter, the rescuers move very slowly in the tunnel that leads to the pocket where little Ryan is trapped for the fifth day, after he fell into a well of his village in a mountainous area of northern Morocco.
An engineer who spoke to Morocco state television’s 2M network said it was likely the effort would take several hours.
“Eighty centimeters separate us from Ryan. The drilling rigs work very carefully to avoid mistakes,” Munir al-Zazouli explained, adding that rescuers were advancing 20 centimeters every hour.
Moroccan rescuers have entered the tunnel leading to Ryan’s pocket in the early afternoon. They are accompanied by a medical team, but it is not known when they will return. Rescuers are still hoping to find the child alive and are unaware of his condition.
