At least 84 undocumented immigrants were rescued from a truck in South Texas, according to a Twitter post by Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.
A concerned citizen called to report a truck at a residence in Weslaco, Texas, according to Guerra. Weslaco is located about 13 kilometers north of the US-Mexico border.
The immigrants are from Central America, Guerra told CNN on Thursday (6), and none of the migrants at the scene asked for medical assistance when they were found.
Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office delegates responded to the scene along with US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Guerra said. An investigation is underway, and special agents with ICE Homeland Security Investigations are looking into the incident as a human trafficking case, the sheriff said.
THE CNN tries to contact CBP to find out more about migrants and their conditions.
