Since the start of the war, Israel has called up more than 360,000 reservists around the world to fight against the radical Islamic group Hamas. The number is 20% higher than that released last week. And it can increase even more.
If the war continues for a long time, the country could call up an additional 60,000 reserve soldiers in the coming weeks, according to Israeli government sources. CNN . Experts estimate that there are around 500,000 Israeli reservists spread across the world.
The people being called up are Israelis born in the country or citizens with dual nationality who were in mandatory military service and remain in reserve with updated training.
The Israeli embassy in Brazil states that it has already received hundreds of emails and messages from people with dual citizenship asking for information on the matter. The Israeli Consulate in São Paulo — responsible for the records of these summonses — did not disclose, however, either how many residents of Brazil were summoned, nor how many accepted.
Officially, what is known is that, last Friday (13), 175 Israelis who were in Latin America embarked from Guarulhos airport, in São Paulo, to Tel Aviv.
The Brazilian Jewish community is the second largest in Latin America, according to data from the Brazilian Israeli Confederation (Conib). There are more than 120 thousand people. The country is second only to Argentina.
