More than 200 humanitarian aid trucks undergo inspection and head to Gaza

Israeli authorities stated on Monday (25) that 218 humanitarian aid trucks were inspected at the crossing points and headed to Gaza in the last few hours.

According to the government’s Coordination of Government Activities in Territories (COGAT):

  • 76 trucks were inspected at the Kerem Shalom crossing and passed directly to Gaza
  • 142 trucks were inspected at the Nitzana crossing and sent to Gaza via the Rafah crossing, coming from Egypt.

Sending aid is considered essential to maintain minimum survival conditions. On December 15, Israel announced that, for the first time since the start of the war in October, it would let humanitarian aid trucks pass directly through Kerem Shalom, one of the two crossing points.

Until then, each and every vehicle with food or hygiene items that arrived at El Arish international airport, in Egypt, had to be sent to Nitzana, in Israel, where it was inspected. Then, sent to Rafah, 44 km away.

In the case of donations that arrived directly in Israel and were close to Kerem Shalom, they were inspected there and then sent to Rafah (distant, in a straight line, about 3 km, or approximately 10 km along a private road, which is the route made by trucks).

“The US has committed to funding the modernization of the Rafah border crossing as quickly as possible so that humanitarian aid can only be transferred through it subject to an Israeli security inspection,” the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said. two weeks ago.
