The Federal Police arrested 24 people in the act, on Saturday night (5), in Nilópolis, in Baixada Fluminense (RJ), for attempting to buy votes.
During the action, which took place in a property used by the candidate to buy votes, the police observed approximately 15 people leaving the place and began the approach. The police located the cash and the link to the names of purchased voters.
According to the PF, the suspects acted as canvassers for a candidate for mayor. Around R$63,000 in cash were seized from them.
In addition to the amount, the team also seized a car stickered with the candidate’s propaganda, a pistol and a list with the names of voters who would supposedly receive money to “sell” their votes.
The suspects were sent to the PF Regional Superintendence in the state, and may face charges of criminal association, electoral corruption and money laundering.
