President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) issued a note of regret for the death of Bishop Angelico Sandalo Bernardino, personal friend of the president, who died on Tuesday (15).
The 92 -year -old bishop underwent hospitalizations and surgeries in recent months, and was under home care.
Dom Angelico held weddings and baptized ceremonies in Lula’s family, including the president’s marriage with the first lady, Janja da Silva, in 2022.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the death of dear Dom Angelico, who dedicated his life to solidarity and love for neighbor, as Jesus Christ taught us.”

According to Lula’s note, besides marriage, both were also together at important moments of his life, as in strikes in Sao Paulo in the 70s and 80s.
“I keep the memories of the great friend who made tenderness and goodness the principles that guided his life. ‘Love and do not love you’ was your lesson to all of us,” Lula continued.
Last week, the president and the first lady made a visit to the bishop during the passage in Sao Paulo.
