Moldova denounces pro-Russian vote-buying network

Forces close to the Kremlin are interfering in Moldova’s upcoming presidential election by paying off tens of thousands of voters in a sweeping plot to derail Chisinau’s bid for closer ties with the European Union, police said today. Incumbent President Maya Sandu presented the October 20 election as a test of her pro-European politics. The election will be held alongside a referendum in which voters will decide whether Moldova should join the EU. Sandu, who is running for a second term, has long accused Russia of trying to topple her government through various means , a charge Moscow denies.
