“We confirmed our excellent bilateral relations but also our common belief in the principles of international law, democracy, equality, respect for human rights. After all, Greece and Romania, in addition to being neighbors in the Balkans, are partners in the EU and allies in NATO something that was highlighted at the recent summit in Madrid where our countries appeared as two of the main pillars of stability and peace in the eastern and south-eastern wing of the Atlantic Pact”, emphasized the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his statements after his meeting with the Prime Minister of Romania, Nicolae Ionel ÄŒuka.
The prime minister pointed out that the peoples of the two countries “stand side by side and face the threats of the climate crisis that concern us all” and made reference to the assistance of the Romanian firefighters last summer, which was then a plan and has now become organized cooperation, as characteristic said the prime minister, in the context of a wider European program.
Mr. Mitsotakis thanked his Romanian counterpart and mentioned that as a former general he certainly understands the importance of operational readiness against asymmetric risks.
“We also agreed to upgrade our cooperation in energy”, Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized, mentioning that Greece plays a leading role as a hub for entering and transporting natural gas, obviously covering national needs but also supplying the wider region and certainly Romania as well. He underlined that “it is not just a commercial choice but an act of responsibility and solidarity with a wider scope that also signals a more medium-to-long-term cooperation between our countries in the field of energy”.
