Missing submarine chief’s wife is descendant of Titanic victims: report

Stockton Rush, one of the people aboard the submersible that disappeared in the North Atlantic, is married to a descendant of two first-class passengers who died when the Titanic sank in 1912 after hitting an iceberg, reported the New York Times.

Rush, who is married to Wendy Rush, is the chief executive of US-based OceanGate Expeditions, which operates the Titan submersible that disappeared on Sunday when it went down with him and four others to visit the wreck of the Titanic off the coast of Canada. .

Wendy Rush is the great-great-great-granddaughter of retail magnate Isidor Straus and his wife, Ida, two of the wealthiest people on the Titanic’s maiden voyage when it sank after hitting an iceberg, the report said, citing archival records.

The tragic story of Isidor Straus, co-owner of Macy’s department store and his wife Ida, is told in James Cameron’s blockbuster film “Titanic”.

Wendy Rush is Oceangate’s director of communications and has already conducted three expeditions to the wreck in 2021, 2022 and 2023, according to her LinkedIn page.
