A 35-year-old military police officer was arrested this Tuesday morning (22) on suspicion of having shot and killed personal trainer Giovanny Diniz Carvalho, 36. He was murdered last Monday (21) as he left home. The crime took place in Petrolina (PE), around 700 kilometers from Recife.
The name of the arrested officer was not released.
As it is a common crime – that is, because it was not a death resulting from police action in which the prisoner was involved –, the investigations will be the responsibility of the Civil Police. The Military Police will initiate administrative proceedings.
Security cameras recorded the moment when Giovanny was attacked by a hooded man, who shot him several times at close range.
Giovanny was the widower of Aila Pimenta, also a personal trainer, who died in February this year after receiving an electric shock during a domestic accident. She was at home when she touched a metal clothesline and received an electric shock, dying at the scene.
The couple left behind three children: a 6-year-old child, a 2-year-old daughter and a 1-year-old boy.
