Milei accuses Lula of acting against his candidacy in Argentina

The far-right candidate for President of Argentina, Javier Milei, called Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva a “nervous communist” and accused him of taking direct actions against his candidacy. The attack was published on social media this Tuesday (3), based on an article by columnist Vera Rosa published in the newspaper The State of S. Paulo.

“The red caste trembles. Many communists were nervous and took direct actions against me and my space. Freedom advances! Long live freedom, dammit!”, wrote Milei on the social network X, formerly called Twitter.

The publication accompanies a print of the publication of the text of the Estadão, in which the journalist says that Lula tried to influence the Latin American Development Bank (CAF) to lend US$1 billion to Argentina.

The initiative would have a positive impact on the current presidential administration, of Lula’s friend, Alberto Fernández, and the candidate supported by him, Sergio Massa, current Minister of Economy of Argentina, says the columnist’s text.

This is because, with Lula’s influence, CAF member countries would have approved sending the resource directly to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on behalf of Argentina, guaranteeing a disbursement of US$7.5 billion to the country, explains the Estadão.

Currently, Argentina’s economic situation is complicated, with inflation reaching more than three digits per year, which has led to electoral discussions. In addition to the lack of dollars and billion-dollar debt to the IMF.

Milei has already criticized Lula on other occasions, calling him a socialist with a “totalitarian vocation”. He is compared to Jair Bolsonaro and is on the opposite side of Peronism [linha política de esquerda] Fernández and Massa.

While Lula defends the strengthening of blocks in the so-called global south, such as Mercosur itself, Milei declares that he intends to remove Argentina from the group.

According to journalist Vera Rosa, from Estadão, Planalto believes that a possible election of Milei would resurrect a far-right pole in Latin America.

Javier Milei led the country’s primary elections, on August 13th, and, therefore, is seen as a politician who could have a significant vote in the first round, on the 22nd, with the possibility of going to the second round.
