He died after a long illness: Roberto Calasso, writer and editorial director of the Adelphi publishing house, was 80 years old. Born in Florence on May 30, 1941, son of the anti-fascist jurist Francesco, Calasso was himself graduated with Mario Praz in English literature, and was a writer and essayist among the most famous and translated, as well as a prestigious editor known throughout the world.
Passionate about reading since he was a child (at thirteen he had already read “In search of lost time” of Proust), he was especially fond of Central European literature and classical mythology.
He had the great library of the maternal grandfather Ernesto Codignola, philosopher and pedagogist founder of the New Italy. Calasso had two children with the German writer Anna Katharina Fröhlich: Josephine and Tancredi.

Just today two of his autobiographical books come out in bookstores. “Bobby” is the memoir about Roberto Bazlen, who with Luciano Foà created the publishing house Adelphi, born in 1965 and directed by Calasso since 1971.
