Mikhail Mishustin: “digital currencies must be integrated into the financial system”

Yesterday, March 25, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin met with members of the LDPR party, during which the participants discussed the regulation of cryptocurrencies in the country.

Yaroslav Nilov, deputy head of the LDPR faction, stressed that the party is in favor of regulating cryptocurrencies in Russia and is against the ban on digital assets. Nilov also said that it would be a good step to launch offshore zones, some kind of “crypto cities”, where a citizen of any state could legalize cryptocurrencies and develop any projects with digital assets, of course, in accordance with the laws.

Mishustin supported the proposal of the LPDR and stressed that last month the government was actively working on developing a concept for regulating cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation. He also noted that special attention was paid to the regulation of the mining industry in Russia.

“We in the government considered the concept in great detail last month, everyone participated in it. The Ministry of Finance introduced it. And, of course, it will be necessary to integrate the mechanism for the circulation of digital currencies into the country’s financial system. This is about your proposal. But, without a doubt, such issues can only be resolved jointly with the Central Bank in order to assess the risks that, including cryptocurrencies, create for the monetary circulation of Russia,” Mishustin said.

Earlier, the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia conceptually supported the bill “On Digital Currency”, but noted that it was necessary to clarify the concept of mining, the procedure for paying for digital currency, and some other provisions.
