The mayor of Miami, the republican Francis Suarez, makes official this Thursday night (15) his entry in the presidential race in the republican primaries of the United States. The information is from the international analyst of CNN Lourival Sant’Anna.
Suarez will speak at 10 pm (Brasília time), in a speech at the Ronald Reagan Library, in Simi Valley, California, which will be broadcast on the internet.
Suarez is in his second consecutive term ahead of Miami, always being chosen with massive votes – 86% of votes in the first election and 78% in his candidacy for re-election. He is the son of Xavier Suarez, the first member of the community of Cubans and descendants of the city to be elected mayor.
The live is part of a series that brings together the main republican names to address the most expensive tariffs for the legend.
Francis Suarez is the second prominent name in Florida politics, after Governor Ron DeSantis, to seek the GOP nomination for the 2024 presidential election. They join the likes of former Vice President Mike Pence, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, and Senator Tim Scott, among others, who challenge Donald Trump’s favoritism.
For now, DeSantis is the strongest name against Trump, but he still cannot threaten the former president’s favoritism, even after the dozens of lawsuits against him, ranging from sexual assault to the confiscation of national security documents, classified as secret and top secret.
The most recent poll on the race in the Republican Party was released in late May by CNN . In it, Donald Trump is ahead, with 53%, ahead of DeSantis, who had 26%. At the time, however, the governor of Florida had not yet officially announced that he would be a candidate.
