Brazilians who intend to travel to Mexico will need, as of August 18, to present a physical visa to the Mexican authorities.
The measure was decreed this Wednesday (3) by the Secretariats of the Interior and Foreign Affairs. The official justification of the government of Mexico is to “strengthen safe, orderly and regular migration and eradicate disinformation campaigns that profit from migrants”.
Until then, it was possible to enter the country for tourist, commercial and cultural purposes with a simple electronic authorization issued through a website.
This electronic system was in place since December last year. Before that, Brazilians were able to legally enter Mexico without a visa, just by presenting a passport.
What to do to travel to Mexico from the 18th?
The Mexican government recommends that Brazilians do not buy air tickets or any tourist service in Mexico before having a physical visa stamped on their passport.
For this, it is necessary that the traveler first schedule an appointment to be seen at the Embassy of Mexico, in Brasília, or at the consulates, in Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo.
Appointments can be made through this website.
“With your appointment number, go to the selected Mexican consulate, carrying the requested documentation and requirements listed on the Embassy and Consulate websites,” the Mexican embassy said.
Brazilians who have a valid and current visa or proof of permanent residence in Canada, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom or any of the countries of the Schengen Area of the European Union are excluded from the need to present a physical Mexican visa.
