Meta Launches Threads Tomorrow

This week, Meta (banned in the Russian Federation) introduced its own analogue of Twitter called Threads. According to the counter from the official website, the project will be released tomorrow, July 6th. It is positioned as a next-generation decentralized social network with the most user-friendly interface. But is it so in practice?

In the Play Market, the Threads application card appeared on July 1, but then it was quickly removed. In the App Store, in turn, you can already pre-order.

The description says that the user can be authorized through their Instagram account. The application allows you to exchange messages and leave short notes. The interface as a whole strongly resembles the Twitter client.

Also, Threads seems to have adopted some Bluesky elements from Jack Dorsey.

An interesting fact is that in March it was reported that Meta was developing a social network project with ActivityPub support. At that time, the information was insider information, and the name of the application was not disclosed. It is possible that it was about Threads.

The reaction of cryptocurrency observers and influencers

Oddly enough, but the announcement caused a very restrained reaction. So, for example, the popular blogger Tiffany Fong, who has more than 66 thousand subscribers, noted in a comment for Cointelegraphthat is the first time hearing about such an application.

Kyle Chasse, an influencer and cryptocurrency expert, is also in no hurry to change the platform. He arranged a vote among its users, and Twitter won.

Why is the audience negative?

It’s all about fear. For example, a comment Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, developer of the aforementioned Bluesky:

“All your Threads belong to us.”

He stressed that Meta’s internal policy actually indicates that the company owns all the information, including financial. This, of course, raises concerns about censorship, towards which the cryptocurrency community is more than negative.
