What is the theme of the exhibition?
Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion: it is an exhibition that will involve the senses, showcasing the masterpieces of high fashion and nature, the eternal inspiration of stylists. Andrew Boltonone of the museum's curators, explained the exhibition in detail to Vogue: «Fashion is one of the most moving art forms due to its connection with the body. It is imbued with memory and emotion and we are connected to it through our senses. I hope this exhibition encourages a sensorial approach to fashion.”
The museum pays a nice tribute to some of the most delicate textile pieces in his collection. Fifteen of them are too fragile to be worn again, so they will be displayed in glass cases like treasures. «They are the “sleeping beauties” of the title», explains Andrew Bolton. Instead of fulfilling their original function, these pieces – including an Elizabethan bodice and an 1887 silk satin ball gown by American couturier Charles Frederick Worth, which was the event's original inspiration – will be transformed by the exhibition.” .
