In Indiana, a girl cannot take her fiancée to prom, which is hindered by the parent organizing committee. Broadway’s group of shaky, shooting stars decide to travel from Manhattan to the small town to save the day (except initially make it worse). We interviewed the cast and director of the film, who in particular told us the reason that prompted him to make the film.

Ryan Murphy: «I decided to make this film when I saw the Musical in the theater. I was so impressed with the emotion that overwhelmed me, and at that point in my life, let’s talk in early 2019, I wanted to feel the same thing. In addition, I am personally linked to the story of the protagonist, I too come from Indiana, and even in high school I was unable to go to the dance with the person I wanted to be my date. Together with personal experience I wanted to create something on the style of the musicals I loved as a child. All this prompted me to make the film ».
Meryl Streepdespite being used to musicals, she had to prepare herself as best she could: «It’s strange, but every year I get older! Even though I’m into musicals it was different for that, the challenge was pretty tough, especially for my poor bad knee, but in the end it was even more difficult than I expected. For that I trained a lot and all the instructors and teachers treated me with kindness. I have been preparing for more than eight weeks just for the physical part. I trained a lot, I haven’t done it since then ».
At the base of the film, the propulsion engine that moves everything, there is precisely a criticism that the characters played by James Corden and Meryl Streep receive at the premiere of their Broadway show. For this reason we asked James Corden if he remembers the first criticism he ever received in his life. The answer struck us a lot: «I remember them all. I wear them like bruises every day on my body, which is why I remember every single criticism I’ve ever received. Fortunately, I have family and friends who support and encourage me, and who don’t make me think too much ».
A grueling but rewarding challenge, even for Nicole Kidman: “We did six weeks of rehearsals, it was a very, very, long time. I must tell the truth having had experiences in this area I thought it would be easier, instead one of the scenes, taken from the choreography of Chicago, it was one of the most difficult ever. We all trained a lot, with patience. Thankfully it was very rewarding and fun. I also remember exclaiming, very loudly, when I first saw one of Meryl’s scenes, and I thought it was really, really cool. ‘
The Prom is available on Netflix from December 11th.
