Mercedes-Benz launches a capsule collection with Superplastic

Two worlds that apparently have nothing to do with it – one serious and reliable, the other playful and volatile – and which instead put together make a lot of sense and create wonder. We are talking about Superplastic and Mercedes-Benzauthors of the collaboration everyone is talking about. The former is a Vermont-based design studio that made a name for itself creating “digital celebrities” or cartoons imaginative and who has already collaborated with brands such as Gucci and Tommy Hilfiger. Mercedes-Benz is the German car manufacturer that needs no introduction. It all starts when at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Superplastic presents a new version of Wackeldackel, the toy dog that bobs his head usually placed on the dashboard of the car, very common on German cars of the 70s. In this modern version the toy is called Superdackel and has already interacted with other celebrities from the Superplastic world, such as Janky and Guggimon, in a short video called Road tripz in which the two steal a Mercedes from a showroom and drive around New York City. Mixed in Dolby Atmos, the animated film was also integrated into the MBUX Superscreen, the heart of the interior of the newly reinterpreted Mercedes-Benz E-Class, which was launched as a world premiere in April.

The limited edition of the Superdackel from the Superplastic x Mercedes-Benz capsule collection

Fast forward and the doggy gets real: limited to only 65 specimens, made of wood made from American plants – 100% sustainable cherry, maple, walnut and alder – it has its own physical version and, in the virtual one, also appears on a set of clothing items. These include a hoodie, t-shirt and hat, all made from 100% organic cotton, with the Mercedes-Benz logo modified to incorporate the Superdackel’s head. Furthermore, as part of the collaboration, Superplastic and Mercedes are also introducing a series of accessories for both “humans” and four-legged friends. For the former, there’s a scarf made of silk with an eye-catching checkered pattern. For the furry ones, a collar is available in sizes small (neck size 31-37cm / 12-14.5 inches) and medium (neck size 39-45cm / approx. 15-17 inches). All with the Superdackel logo.

The Superplastic x Mercedes-Benz collaboration was presented last week (during dachshund day!) with an exclusive event in New York at the 15 Prince Street store, which for the occasion transformed into a playground halfway with the open-air club. If you’re in the Big Apple, the Superplastic flagship is worth a visit, even if the Mercedes items may already be sold out. However, they remain purchasable on the site superplastic.co. Admitting that Mercedes-Benz x Superplastic is a collaboration we didn’t expect, it actually makes a lot of sense. Both brands are known for their sense of ethics, present in how they align with both brands’ mission of net carbon neutrality while remaining respectful of their economic, environmental and social responsibilities. “The opportunity to bring Superdackel to life with Mercedes-Benz has transcended the possibilities of our digital universe,” said Galen McKamy, Chief Creative Officer of Superplastic. «Janky and Guggimon are thrilled to have a new partner for their raids». “Woof, woof,” Superdackel replied.
