The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, joined the Director General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on Saturday (11) to host a women's leadership event in Nigeria's capital, Abuja.
Focusing on women's leadership in Nigeria, Meghan spoke about being a role model and empowering the next generation of girls.
“A familiar face for the next generation to say: Oh! She looks like me. And I can be like her,” she said.
Markle and Okonjo-Iweala also discussed the various challenges women face in the country when it comes to advancing their careers and occupying leadership positions.
Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, are on their first trip to Africa's most populous country. The trip was motivated by the bonds forged through the Invictus Games, an international sporting event initiated a decade ago by the Duke for soldiers injured in combat.
