Meet Sevdaliza, Pabllo Vittar’s partner in the global hit “Alibi”

The music “Alibi” made in collaboration with the Brazilian drag queen Pabllo Vittar and the French Yseult has consolidated itself as the main success of the career of Sevdaliza . This Monday (15), the song continued its climb and reached the position of 16th most listened to song on Spotify all around the world.

“Alibi” also made Pabllo Vittar the first Brazilian drag queen to enter the top 50 of music streaming and hold the third highest peak for a Brazilian artist on the platform, behind only Anitta who reached the top with “Envolver” and eighth place with “Bellakeo”, in collaboration with Peso Pluma.

The song went viral on social media thanks to a sample of a traditional Colombian song (“Rosa”, by Totó La Momposina), used to compose its chorus (“Rosa, que linda eres”) and which serves as a “bed” for the repetition of “Alibi”, the song’s title. It has already been played almost 35 million times on Spotify, with around 2.9 million in the last 24 hours, as calculated by the platform. On YouTube, the video already has more than 20 million views and is in 11th place among the trending songs.

Want to know who Sevdaliza is, the singer who leads the partnership that made “Alibi” a hit? CNN explains below:

Who is Sevdaliza, who sings with Pabllo Vittar in “Alibi”?

Sevdaliza is a 36-year-old singer who built her career based on the “Homogenic” era of Icelandic singer Björk, and has also explored experimental pop and adjacent genres such as electronic and alternative R&B. She was born in Tehran, Iran, but moved to the Netherlands when she was 5 years old. In the European country, the artist won a scholarship to a university thanks to her talent in basketball and even played for the Dutch national team.

Her debut in music, however, only occurred at the age of 27, when she had already graduated in communications. Since then, Sevdaliza has released four EPs and two studio albums.

“Alibi”, as well as “Who Are You Running From”, “Ride Or Die”, “Good Torture” and “Nothing Lasts Forever” – the last two released in partnership with Grimes – should be on the singer’s next album, which has no confirmed name or release date.

She has performed in Brazil three times. The first time, in 2019, she performed two shows: one in São Paulo and the other in Recife. The second time, in 2022, Sevdaliza was part of the lineup for the first edition of the Primavera Sound festival. And this year, the Iranian artist returned to the country to perform at the special anniversary edition of the Mamba Negra party, also in São Paulo.
