According to media from the British city Liverpool, the Church Street McDonald’s branch prohibited the access of customers under 18 years of age who are not accompanied by an adult after 5:00 pm due to episodes that have been called as behavior antisocial starring children.
The company spokesperson announced that in recent weeks they have seen an increase in the number of incidents in the area, in which staff have been subjected to verbal and physical abuse.
According to the company’s policies, there is zero tolerance for crime and antisocial behavior. In this way, the spokesman also mentioned that the decision was not taken lightly and that it is expected to be temporary, while they are working with the police to find a solution and thus reduce these incidents.
According to a survey carried out by the British retail industry union, Usdaw, it was revealed that an increasing number of employees are being subjected to abuse, with almost nine in ten workers saying they had been the victim of verbal abuse; 60 percent said they had been threatened with physical violence, while 9 percent reported being physically assaulted.
This is not the first time that the restaurant chain has been involved in this type of aggression, because around the world, in different branches, there have been moments of violence from customers to employees.
One of the most recent cases was in 2019, in Saint Petersburg, Florida, United States, where a 40-year-old customer yelled at the African-American cashier and from the other side of the counter grabbed her by the neck while she tried to defend herself by hitting him with the arms. It wasn’t until her co-workers intervened on her that he released her.
In addition, in 2020, in Hong Kong, in the midst of the covid-19 pandemic, an event of this type was experienced when the employee called customer attention for not wearing a face mask as a general measure in all establishments, to which the 27-year-old man crossed behind the counter and physically assaulted him to the ground.
