Massa and Milei vote in the second round of Argentina’s presidential election

The two candidates for President of Argentina, Sergio Massa and Javier Milei, voted in the second round of the country’s presidential elections, held this Sunday (19).

The government candidate and current minister of economy in Argentina, Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria), was present earlier at a school in the municipality of Tigre, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, to register his vote.

In the early afternoon, the libertarian candidate for president of Argentina, Javier Milei (La Libertad Avanza), was received by supporters at the National Technological University, located in the Almagro neighborhood, in Buenos Aires, where he registered his vote.

The Argentine court ordered that a security scheme be established at the National Technological University, after the high flow of Milei supporters caused confusion there during the first round.

Massa ended the first round with 36.69% of valid votes, winning the first stage of the election. Ultraliberal candidate Javier Milei closed the stage with 29.99%. With the result, the two were sent to the second round.

According to Atlasintel’s projection published on November 10, Milei should win the election with 52.1% of the total votes, against Massa’s 47.9% – with a margin of error of one percentage point.

To achieve the turnaround – a feat achieved only by former president Maurício Macri, in 2015 –, Milei counts on the support of third place in the first round, Patricia Bullrich (Juntos por el Cambio), who had 23.84% of the votes.

Massa has been trying to get closer to different sectors of Argentine politics and the economy since the end of the first round.
