The Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Archbishop Pierbattista Pizzaballa, celebrated a mass in honor of Pope Francis in the holy Sepulcher of Jerusalem on Wednesday (23).
The faithful gathered to pray for the late pontiff.
“He used to cry out for peace, love, respect and dialogue between religions,” commented a Belém believer.
According to the website of the Holy Sepulcher Church, the place where it is would be where Jesus Christ was crucified and buried.
The Church has long been an important pilgrimage center for Christians around the world.
Francisco spent five weeks hospitalized earlier this year in treatment for double pneumonia.
He looked in public for the last time on Easter Sunday (20), when he surprised the pilgrims as he was led by the square crowded in the white and convertible popemobile.
The pontiff’s funeral is scheduled for next Saturday (26) and will bring together heads of state around the world, including US President Donald Trump, who has been conflicting with the Pope on social issues.
